Jay-Z, Beyonce, and Solange Issue Public Statements after Elevator Fight

Jay Z and Solange Knowles have finally spoken out about the now infamous security footage video of the two of them fighting in an elevator. The family issued an official statement on Thursday, May 15.

What began as a heated verbal disagreement turned into a physical altercation when Solange attacked Jay, her brother-in-law. Jay Z is famously married to Solange’s sister, superstar singer Beyonce. The video from the night of the Met Gala was leaked from an elevator at the Standard Hotel in New York, where the family was staying. When watching the video, one can clearly see the threesome in their Met Gala outfits that were photographed and published all night long and for days afterward.

“As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident,”  the official statement read. “But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it. Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”

There had been alleged reports that Solange had been acting erratic and drunk throughout the Met Gala and that she was highly intoxicated and “out of it” during the fight. Thursday’s statement called these reports ” simply false ” and continued, “At the end of the day families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.”

TMZ is alleged to have paid $250,000 for the original video. The leaked footage resulted in the firing of the hotel employee who leaked the photo.

The family’s statement is a huge step in the right direction. But it doesn’t clarify what caused the fight in the first place, something that fans and curious people everywhere are dying to know.
