1. Eifelland Type 21 (1972)

Named after the team owner's caravan manufacturing company, the Eifelland's only model to ever grace F1 was naturally something of a monster.

Besides the fat, protruding, squared-off front section, the clincher really has to be the unorthodox cockpit design. The positioning of the air intake in front of the driver's ahead created a tank-like, wraparound midsection. And that absurd single rear-view mirror teetering above the steering wheel must have done wonders for the driver's field of vision.

Eifelland couldn't have made it to No 1 spot alone, of course - the chassis was based on the 721 model crafted by our old friends at March. But for all the dreadful added accoutrements listed above, and the fact that Eifelland gradually had to revert to the original March parts because of its own unreliability, the Type 21 claims this dubious honour.
